This is one of the most common questions we get from business owners: "Should I build a website or a mobile app?"
Most agencies will steer you toward whichever has a higher price tag. Here's the honest, no-bias answer.
You probably don't need an app if:
- Customers interact with you only occasionally — once every few months, like a clinic visit, a salon appointment, or an annual service
- Most of your new customers find you through Google search
- You're still validating your idea or business model
- Your budget for digital is under ₹5 lakh
In these cases, a well-built, mobile-responsive website does the job. It's discoverable on Google (apps generally aren't, until someone already knows your brand), faster to build, and 70–80% cheaper than an app.
You probably do need an app if:
- Customers interact with you weekly or more often — food ordering, fitness tracking, ride booking, daily services
- You need push notifications for time-sensitive updates
- Your service needs to work offline some of the time — field staff, delivery, logistics
- You're building something people will "live inside" — community, productivity, ongoing tracking
A real example: we built NammaElectric, an EV cab booking platform for Bengaluru, as a mobile app — because riders book multiple times a week and expect instant push notifications when a cab is nearby. That use case justified the app investment.
But for a neighbourhood bakery, a CA's practice, or a boutique consulting firm, a mobile-optimized website usually serves the same purpose for a fraction of the cost.
Rough cost guide:
- Business website: ₹35,000 – ₹1,50,000
- E-commerce website: ₹80,000 – ₹3,50,000
- Mobile app (iOS + Android): ₹1,50,000 – ₹12,00,000
If you're unsure which is right for your business, we'll give you an honest recommendation — not a sales pitch.
